  • Dynamic tests for CNC machine tools
  • Laser calibration
  • Ball bar test
  • Machine Capability Index Cm
  • CNC machine acceptance with Process Capability
  • Establishing Machine Capability if Process Capability not achieved
  • Establishing Machine Capability for new machine
  • Establishing Machine Capability for new process
  • Periodic checking of machine to confirm deterioration of machine

Background

There are many variables including machine, workholding, tooling, process, maintenance, and environment which affect the capability of a CNC machine to produce acceptable quality parts. When rejection levels are high it is a challenge for production and quality engineers to identify the cause. It is therefore very important to verify what is the contribution of the machine to low process capability index. There is a systematic approach to establish the capability of the machine to meet component specification. This systematic approach when carried out periodically would also help engineers to catch deterioration of machine performance over time. In view of this Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organising an online training on "Systematic Approach for establishing Machine Capability".

Key Takeaways

  • Carry out static and dynamic tests
  • Cutting test including NAS test piece
  • Interpret and correct CNC machine after laser calibration and ball bar test
  • Structured CNC machine testing process
  • Establish Machine Capability acceptance of CNC machines
