IMTMA Training Centre

Online Training on Burr Minimization and Finishing of Edges

Focus Areas

  • Introduction to Burrs and why they result
  • Types of Burrs
  • Standards of Burr Measurement
  • Burr Minimization for Turning, Drilling and Milling operation
  • Conventional Deburring Methods and Tools
  • Non-Conventional Deburring Technologies
  • Minimization of Burrs in Sheet metal cutting

Background

Burrs are unwanted and detrimental side effect of machining or sheet metal cutting processes. With machining / shearing strategy, tool maintenance and process design although it is possible to minimize burrs ; there are situations where burrs are absolutely not acceptable and hence they need to be Finished with specific deburring processes, incurring additional cost. Owing to shortfall on basic knowledge about why and how burrs form, how they could be minimized and from host of deburring technologies which one could be optimal; often Finishing of Edges by far remain an unplanned activity done manually somehow-anyhow, and worst part is when burrs are being accepted as fait accompli.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organising an online training on "Burr Minimization and Finishing of Edges".

Key Takeaways

  • Understand between burrs vs chip breaking failure
  • Insight into mechanism of burr formation; its dependence on material properties
  • Define the burr and edge quality in the process and able to understand how it affects fit, function and safe use of product
  • Plan & implement machining and shearing operations for minimising burrs
  • Gain knowledge on various conventional and non-conventional methods for burr prevention and burr removal
  • Get awareness on various equipments and processes practiced in manufacturing industry
